A Food Filled Day

What's better than chocolate? How about FREE chocolate?!

This weekend the Harvard Square Business Association hosted the 5th annual Chocolate Festival.  I went on Saturday to Deguglielmo Plaza for the hour long chocolate sampling event. There, local vendors brought small chocolate themed treats for enthusiasts to taste.

We arrived a couples minutes before the festival opened and there was already a long line despite the rainy weather!  As soon as I saw the deserts I understood why.

The contributing vendors included Kennedy's on the Square, J.P Licks, Salt and Olive, Wagamama, Alden and Harlow, The Sinclair and Sweet.

While you don't have to eat everything, I would recommend doing so.  Everything I ate was delicious!

The first treat I tried was hot chocolate.  It was the perfect way to start since it was so cold! I also tried chocolate fudge, ice-cream, a brownie and much more!

This is a picture of one of my favorites, a chocolate pecan pie with caramel sauce.

I wasn't able to get too may pictures because I didn't want to disturb the flow of traffic but trust me when I say everything looked amazing!

A little hard to see but,  these are the samples of chocolate cake.

After traveling down the row of vendors, I ended up with around eight samples.  It was definitely worth the wait which wasn't even that long.

To accompany all the deliciousness, drums were beat by Bloco Afro - Brazil in the background.

If you didn't get to go to the Chocolate Festival this year, I would definitely keep an eye out for it next year.  It is an exciting event to go to with friends or family (or both)!

As if all the yummy samples weren't enough we decided to get lunch at Border Cafe, an authentic tex-mex and cajun restaurant.

With hours keeping the restaurant open from as early as 11am to as late as 2am (depending on the day) it is a great place for lunch, dinner or even late night munchies!

The decor is really cool and casual.  All the walls are painted with bright colors and strings of lights hang from the ceiling.

As soon as you sit down chips and salsa are served. The chips were so good; they were warm and perfectly salted.

The waitress also brought over these huge glasses of water; I've never saw glasses that big in a restaurant before. Considering the fact that I didn't drink any water all day I was very grateful for the large refreshments.

The menu here is great;  It offers a lot of items that won't break the bank!

I decided on a quesadilla with a blend of melted cheeses and marinated chicken in a homemade flour tortilla for my meal. It also came with sour cream, tomatoes and (for an additional cost) guacamole.

It was so flavorful! The cheese was super melted just the way I like it and the chicken was spiced just right.  In my opinion, the best way to eat the quesadillas is to put all the extras on top.  The only down side was that it was a little hard to eat.  But, when the flavors are that tasty you find a way!

Unfortunately, I couldn't finish it all due to the fact that I filled up on chips before my meal came. As you can see the serving is pretty big so I would recommend splitting it especially if you plan on ordering other food.

Going to the festival and lunch with my friends was so much fun!  It was a great way to spend my first weekend back at college :)
